Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is playing an increasingly strategic role as an enabler of public service delivery. This importance has been highlighted by among other, the King III Report on Corporate Governance, a Presidential Review Commission (PRC) report and the Findings of the Auditor General (AG).
To enable Political and Strategic leadership to embrace ICT as an enabler of service delivery, the DPSA, in consultation with the GITOC and the AG, developed the Corporate Governance of ICT Policy Framework (ICT Governance Policy Framework).
Mandatory Compliance Requirement
South African Government Departments, Provinces, Municipalities and other institutions are required to comply with the requirements of the ICT Governance Policy Framework, which has been adopted by the Cabinet in 2012.
Compliance with the requirements of the Framework will be monitored / measured by the AG and the Department of Planning. Government institutions are required to adopt of a phased implementation approach that shall be completed according to strict deadlines.
Two Day Training Workshop
The 2-day training workshop is designed to equip both non-IT managers as well as IT management who have to serve as members of ICT Steering committees with the necessary knowledge with regards to their roles and responsibilities so that they can offer a valuable service and make more meaningful contribution to ICT Corporate Governance in government and public sector organisations.
Session 1: Course Introduction & Overview of Role of IT to Support the Business
- To understand the role of IT in the successful achievement of business goals and strategies
- Develop a perspective and understanding of how IT can help to enhance business processes and functions
- Understand the how IT functions, i.e. IT’s Strategic Partner-, Business Partner-, and Service Provider Roles and functions
- Understand the responsibility of business management in managing IT related risks, Business Continuity and Information Security
Session 2: Overview of Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC)
- Introduction to Corporate Governance, Risk and Compliance
- Overview of Corporate Governance (King III)
- Overview of Enterprise Risk Management (COSO ERM, ISO 31000)
- ICT Risk Management as part of the government’s Risk Management Framework

What are the minimum and the maximum number of candidates we can train in-house?
The minimum number of candidates required for in-house training is 6. With regard to the maximum number, this depends a little on the size of the training room you have available, but we normally say between 15 – 25.
